First Look at Lazy Activations of 3G services by Tata DoCoMo

I consider 3G as an idea who's time has come. Especially for people like me in India who aspire to be at the forefront of being 'technology enabled'.

BSNL people never did anything good with their implementation. I guess somebody paid them money to sleep on their desks. Anyway I have a lot of expectations with tata docomo. as both (Tata and DOCOMO ) are very well known brands.

Here it goes.

After I sent 'ACT 3G' to 53333 they asked for around 2 hours to activate the service.
However they did activate it only after i called them to at least send settings.

Finally after 3 hours I started using 3G and yes it is FAST. :) love it.

Unfortunately Even though first 100MB download is free for next 3-4 days. they charged me for my surfing, 5 Rs 90 paise and secondly 20 paise when i checked for latest version of my mobile software. :( :(

BAD first impression, as first 100MB was supposed to be free.

When i called Customer support they tell, they had not yet credited 100MB to my account. and so I was billed. So here goes my 6 Rs and 10 Paise Bye Bye !!!!! (Although i do not miss the money i do feel this was by no means my fault).
Moreover they told, They will take 24 hours to credit this 100MB to my account. So ideally i can use this 100MB only after tomorrow ie 8th Nov if i do not want to be billed. So much for LAZY ACTIVATION. that leaves me with 2 days to use this 100MB. as this plan is only till 11NOV 2010.

All this free first 100MB is just a farce by Tata DOCOMO to iron out their own delivery channels. Its such a idiotic way to roll out a HUGE advantage as 3G to your customers. I would akin it to washing their UG in public.

Anyway .. I am in and lets see how it goes as lot of good things can happen over mobile internet RSS feeds being one of the best things i am looking forward to. Twitter and Yammer apps are second .. hopefully facebook...

Unfortunately i can not yet Putty to my servers using mobile. :( but thats ok.


Note:
It amazed me why Tata DoCoMo did not use Pre-Order. they could have taken down my number 2 days before they launched the service, knowing my intrest in 3G. But Customer care officials were not at all interested / aware of this simple business lever.

  1. Its second day since i got my services activated and still their free 100 MB plan is not activated for my connection.

  2. A new set of problem has started with tata DoCoMo.

    After i have talked for a while, the whole voice from other end is garbled. I wonder if they are now trying to put voice ciphering in between.

    If only these !@@#$ tell us beforehand i would not be their Guinea pig.
